Sochi – venue of the soccer national team
Sochi – here the German national team plays the second group match on 23rd June 2018 at 08.00 p.m. (UTC+1). Like in 2014, when the Germans became soccer world champions, the opposing team will be Sweden. 38 games were played so far. The result is balanced. Each country has won 15 times – 8 times the game ended in a draw. But Germany won the goal average of 73:68. The last time both teams met, was in Sweden in 2014 when they played for the championship qualification. Germany won (5:3), after the first game in Germany ended in a draw.
The Olympic Stadium in Sochi was build for the Winter Olympics in 2014 and was used during the Olympic Games for the opening and closing event. During the soccer world championship, the stadium will be 1 in total of 12 different venues.
The capacity of the stadium has been increased from 40.000 to 48.000 seats for the world championship. The already existing roof had to be removed due to FIFA regulations, as these regulations impose to play open-air.
The stadium has been opened in April 2013. This venue has already been used for the games of the Confederations Cup 2017 (17th June until 02nd July 2017).
Within the soccer world championship 2018, 6 games will take place at the Fisht Olympic Stadium in total.
