The last time both teams met, was in Sweden in 2014 when they played for the championship qualification. Germany won (5:3), after the first game in Germany ended in a draw.

The Olympic Stadium in Sochi was build for the Winter Olympics in 2014 and was used during the Olympic Games for the opening and closing event. During the soccer world championship, the stadium will be 1 in total of 12 different venues.

The capacity of the stadium has been increased from 40.000 to 48.000 seats for the world championship. The already existing roof had to be removed due to FIFA regulations, as these regulations impose to play open-air.

The stadium has been opened in April 2013. This venue has already been used for the games of the Confederations Cup 2017 (17th June until 02nd July 2017).

Within the soccer world championship 2018, 6 games will take place at the Fisht Olympic Stadium in total.

All visitors can look forward to a great city as well. The city of Sochi is the pearl of the Crimea Peninsula- the most northernly subtropics. Sochi is directly situated at the black sea and is one of the most popular seaside and spa resorts of Russia. For a very good reason the area around Sochi is also called the Russian Riviera. The Caucasus with its mountaintops of over more than 3.000 meteres, is only 40 kilometers away from Sochi. This ensures that Sochi is situated in a unique way to be seaside and winter sports destination at once. The climate on the coast is Mediterranean, whereas the mountaintops of the Caucasus are covered with snow.
